Laser Ablation Ion Source for Highly Charge-state Ion Beams*

چکیده
The KEK Laser ablation ion source (KEK-LAIS) is under development in order to generate highly ionized metal and fully ionized carbon for future applications. Laser ablation experiments have been carried out by using NdYAG laser (0.75 J/pulse, 20 ns) at the KEK test bench. Basic parameters such as a charge-state spectrum and momentum spectrum of the plasma and extracted ion beam current have been obtained. Extraction of C ions from the LAIS is described.

Hybrid Ion Sources for the Production of Highly Charged Ion Beams from Metals
The ECLISSE experiment proved in 2002 the possibility to couple a Laser Ion Source (LIS) with an Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) in order to obtain ion beams from refractory metals with a cw beam structure. The use of a LIS inside the ECRIS plasma chamber may permit to increase the beam current and the ion charge state. The use of 3 generation ECRIS may extend the capabilities o...

Various species of high intensity highly charged state heavy ion beams with small emittance are required in many fields including particle physics, medical uses, inertial fusion, and simulator of space radiations. Direct Plasma Injection Scheme (DPIS), we have developed for several years, is a unique scheme to provide heavy ion beams to meet the above requirements. A high-density plasma created...
متن کاملCalcium and lithium ion production for laser ion source.
Calcium and lithium ion beams are required by NASA Space Radiation Laboratory at Brookhaven National Laboratory to simulate the effects of cosmic radiation. To identify the difficulties in providing such highly reactive materials as laser targets, both species were experimentally tested. Plate shaped lithium and calcium targets were fabricated to create ablation plasmas with a 6 ns 1064 nm neod...
متن کاملCharacterization of Expanding Laser Plasma Produced by Laser Ablation
This work is devoted to characterizing the plasma produced by nanosecond laser ablation. The expanding plasma was generated by the interaction of a home made XeCl excimer laser with a Cu target. The time-of-flight method was utilized as diagnostic tool of the plasma charged particles. By this method, in fact, we were able to measure the ion and electron currents, the charge-states and the energ...
متن کاملSpark discharge coupled laser multicharged ion source.
A spark discharge is coupled to a laser multicharged ion source to enhance ion generation. The laser plasma triggers a spark discharge with electrodes located in front of the ablated target. For an aluminum target, the spark discharge results in significant enhancement in the generation of multicharged ions along with higher charge states than observed with the laser source alone. When a Nd:YAG...
